Fifteen years ago, 5 francophone seniors decided that it would be fun to share their musical talents as a way to practice and meet once a week. Their meeting place was Centre Bel Âge every Wednesday morning. The first members were Jean Lambert, Bart Charpentier, Albert LaGrange, Maurice LaCasse and Emile Toutant. Soon they picked the name “Les Jammers” and a musical group was born!
Mrs. Evelyn Christie came along on the keyboard and the popularity of the musicians began a calendar of “gigs” at Foyer Maillard (residence for seniors), the “Cabane à Sucre” at Festival du Bois where they have become the life of the lineup waiting for the sweet treat. They added the annual Fair in the Square celebration in Maillardville and many other civic functions to their list where they regale the public with their reels, traditional songs and toe-tapping tunes.
Since their inception, some of the musicians have changed. From the original five, their numbers have almost doubled to 9. Of the founding members only Jean Lambert and Maurice LaCasse remain. Their gigs have grown to encompass 36 different venues, from seniors’ homes to hospitals and civic events. More importantly, they continue their Wednesday practices at Centre Bel Âge where anyone can come for a coffee, sit and listen to a great bunch of musicians!! Kudos to you for making life more pleasant for all!! To contact or make a booking, call our office at Club Bel Âge.
